Objectives
Primary Purpose:
1) The primary purpose of the Fatigue Study Group is research: Pilot studies can be conducted initially at 1-3 institutions that subsequently can be tested group-wide. Trials should include multidisciplinary co-investigators. Studies possibly can address: a) basic science on underlying fatigue mechanisms using animal or laboratory settings/samples; b) translational studies, not only of basic science findings, but also of evidence-based guidelines; c) aspects of fatigue and the health care spectrum such as prevention, screening and detection, treatment, rehabilitation, survivorship and late effects, and palliative, end of life care; and d) exploration of collaborative group studies within MASCC's other study groups with a focus on fatigue.
Secondary Purpose:
2) The secondary purpose of the Fatigue Study Group is education. The group serves as a resource for MASCC and its members on Cancer-Related Fatigue. This may involve identifying speakers and topics for scientific and plenary sessions at MASCC meetings; submitting and stimulating publications in the MASCC journal; and updating the MASCC website on fatigue presentations, posters, resources, and Fatigue Study Group activities.
