Policy for MASCC/ISOO Scholarships
In that MASCC/ISOO sees as part of its mission to reach out to health care professionals worldwide with a strong interest in supportive cancer care, scholarships for membership will be made available on a yearly basis for those who cannot afford the full membership dues. The policy for the scholarships follows.
Scholarships are open to any physician, nurse, dentist, pharmacist, social worker, psychologist, trainee, or other health care professional with an interest in supportive care in oncology. The primary focus of the applicant must be supportive care.
The applicant must apply annually and can renew for two more years (three years total). Beyond three years, there must be demonstrated activity to justify continuation of the scholarship membership. Examples of activities showing involvement in MASCC/ISOO include: contribution to the journal, contribution to the web page; recruitment of 3 paying members per year; demonstrated activity for a study group; acceptance of an abstract at the annual symposium; meeting attendance, etc. Also, after three years, the applicant must be able to communicate by e-mail; that is, have some e-mail access.
Applicants will be asked to declare on their honor that they cannot afford to pay membership dues.
Initially, MASCC will accept 60 applicants. Future scholarship numbers will depend upon the size of the society and re-evaluation of the success of the first 60 awardees.
