Dr. Paul Hesketh, President of MASCC, presented Dr. Agnes Glaus,co-chair of this year’s symposium, with the MASCC DistinguishedService Award during the opening ceremony. The award was given in recognition of Dr. Glaus’s many years of outstanding work and contributions to the organization.

The 2007 award winner of the Young Investigator’s award is Silvia Wicki. Silvia is in her final year as a medcal student at the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern, Switzerland. She will be spending 3 months of the year in Calgary, Canada for an elective at Alberta Children's Hospital. After graduation she is planning to work for a year in a small ski resort in the Swiss Alps where she will be a resident in internal medicine. Silvia’s goal is to specialize in pediatrics or gynecology.
The abstract 'Predicting fever and neutropenia in children with cancer', which draw the attention of the MASCC reviewers, is part of Silvia’s dissertation. It is the first time for her to conduct medical research and it has given her an interest in continuing to conduct research as part of her medical practice.
