Objective:
The MASCC Nutrition Study Group encourages broad-based research and state-of-the-art clinical practice on issues that interface between the disciplines "clinical nutrition" and "cancer."

Goals:
A major goal of this Group is to increase awareness of already-existing guidelines for the appropriate use of nutritional support in cancer patients as well as for the appropriate use of palliative and therapeutic strategies in the management of anorexia and weight loss in patients with advanced cancer. The Group works to develop and coordinate new evidence-based guidelines as appropriate. When gaps in the scientific literature are identified, the Group serves to encourage research with the goal of improving the current state of clinical practice. In addition, the use of nutrition-based complementary and alternative medicine therapies remains a focus, and the Group encourages research and guideline development on emerging, related issues as appropriate. As a subgroup of a large international organization, the MASCC Nutrition Study Group remains sensitive in all its endeavors to the cultural and economic differences in cancer populations around the world.

In summary, the MASCC Nutrition Study Group serves as a resource for the development of clinical- and laboratory-based research efforts and for the development of clinical practice guidelines relevant to the issues that interface between the disciplines of clinical nutrition and cancer.
