Message from our President
Dear Colleagues,
I thank all who have responded over the past few months to the call for new study group co-chairs. This call is still open and I invite other MASCC members to consider becoming more involved with MASCC by submitting your name for consideration as a study group co-chair. Our current need is for individuals who live outside the USA and have an interest in one of the following four study groups: Bone Complications, Skin Toxicities, Neurological Complications or Antiemetics. If you are interested, please contact Cindy Rittenberg at cindyrit@bellsouth.net. After reviewing all the candidates, I will be announcing these appointments early in 2008.

Committee Report
The MASCC Membership Committee recently sent out 132 short surveys to former members who had failed to renew their membership. The purpose was to determine if there were any specific factors that could be addressed to improve members' satisfaction with the society, the journal and the Symposium. Only 10 surveys were returned, which was insufficient to show any dominant themes. One unexpected result was 3 members re-joining!
Study Group recent activities
Professional and Patient Education: The findings of a previous survey of nurses in 15 countries provided the rationale for developing a clinical teaching tool (CTT) that offers consistent and comprehensive teaching of patients receiving oral cancer agents. A group of 6 nurse experts met in August to create this teaching tool.

Skin Toxicities: Members of this study group held a very exciting and productive meeting this November. Dermatologists, a psychologist, and oncology physicians, nurses, and dentists, plus representatives from the National Cancer Institute (total 22) from around the world were selected for their expertise in recognition of skin toxicities resulting from epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors.. The group reviewed research, discussed various opinions and together drafted a EGFR inhibitor skin toxicity grading scale. This scale will next be reviewed, revised and then field-tested for reliability and validity.
