While you are at the Symposium, visit a Study Group and learn about... the skin toxicity scale development project, education's new teaching tool to use with patients on oral cancer agents, the antiemetic's newly designed survey on physician's use of the antiemetic guidelines, and oral care's  systematic review of oral complications from cancer therapy.  Become active in your study group!  Needed are members to become involved in their study groups' projects in the coming year. Contact a Study Group Chair and participate!
M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Tours
MASCC/ISOO Symposium 2008 - June 26-28 

Cancer Center Tour -Thursday, June 26, 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.
M. D. Anderson Cancer Center will host a guided tour for conference attendees to showcase M. D. Anderson's history, Rehabilitation Services, Ambulatory Treatment, Emergency Center, Patient amenities and the Head and Neck Center, which houses facial prosthetics.  The tour will be available on Thursday, June 26, 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. There will two tours with a total of 20 people - 10 in each tour.  People who have been confirmed for the Tour will need to meet in the Hilton Hotel Lobby at 9:00 a.m.  Individuals will ride the metro rail to the hospital and back.  Patricia Cunningham will accompany group.  Space is limited.  Make your reservation today by emailing Debbie Kurth at
debbiekurth@bsiincorp.com.  Since space is limited, attendees will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Your participation will be confirmed via e-mail.

Announcing The New MASCC Board of Directors
MASCC recently announced the winners of the election for
MASCC Board of Directors.

Additionally, the ISOO Board elections were just completed.

Thanks to Matti Aapro, MD Ronald Feld, MD and Petra Feyer, MD who have served their limit of consecutive terms on the Board of Directors.  Their contributions have been vital to the growth of MASCC.  They continue to serve MASCC as study group and committee chairs.

A thank you also goes to Dr. Monique Stokman for her work on the ISOO board as secretary of communication.

Congratulations to Members Receiving Recognition 
The Board of Directors has established the membership category of honorary member.  They are pleased to announce Jean Klastersky from Belgium as the first recipient of this level of membership. Dr. Klastersky is credited as one of the founders of MASCC, served as president for its first 10 years and was chair the infection study group since its inception.

Agnes Glaus from Switzerland has received the Oncology Nursing Society's 2008 International Award for Contributions in Cancer Care.
 
Sultan Kav from Turkey has been elected to the position of President Elect of the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS).  She will be assuming the role of President in 2009.
 
 Yuer-Hur Lai from Taiwan was presented with the Distinguished Research Performance Award" which is supported from The National Union of Nurses Association of the Republic of China (Taiwan).  She received this award for her work that is published as "Fatigue experiences in carcinoma patients during six weeks of stereotactic radiotherapy". Oncologist. 2007 Feb;12 (2):221 30.
 
Beth Hollen, our web manager, had a baby boy on May 20th.  Congratulations to her and her husband on the arrival of William Dargan Coggeshall III
