New Psychosocial Subgroup on Cross-Cultural Issues

January 2017
The Psychosocial Study Group has announced the formation of a new Subgroup, which will focus on cross-cultural issues in cancer supportive care. Study Group members Sandra Michiels and Patrick Crombez will head this new initiative. Supportive care involves awareness of the ways in which culture, immigration, and ethnicity affect the outcomes of cancer therapies. Increased knowledge about cultural differences can lead to more effective clinical interactions and outcomes and can decrease disparities in cancer care. The new Cross-Cultural Subgroup plans to design interventions that promote cultural competence among cancer care professionals and will undertake qualitative research on cross-cultural issues. See the Psychosocial Study Group or contact Sandra or Patrick for more information and to get involved.
