CureCancer: A Supportive Care Mission

CureCancer  is a supportive care site dedicated to promoting the success of cancer treatments, reducing costs, and improving overall quality of life. CureCancer has also created a free tool to help patients organize their medical records and keep their healthcare providers up to date, with the aim of ensuring the best, most efficient, and safest treatment decisions. This tool, developed by MASCC member Dimitra Galiti, DDS, MSc, and management and technology consultant Ilias Stasinos, BEng, MSc, has recently been recognized and endorsed by the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (HeSMO). Dimitra was inspired to develop the CureCancer tool while working in a dental oncology office. There, she realized the need for practitioners to know their patients’ medical histories and how difficult it was to obtain the information each time. She proposed to Ilias Stasinos, who had been a fellow student at the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation (Athens College), that they develop the tool together.

Dimitra Galiti is the daughter of Ourania Nicolatou-Galitis, DDS, MSc, Dr Dent, who has supported the project throughout. Dimitra is a member of MASCC’s Mucositis Study Group, the Bone & Musculoskeletal Study Group, and MASCC and ISOO’s Oral Care Study Group. Her research subjects include osteonecrosis of the jaw, dysphagia in patients with head and neck cancer, and translation of guidelines for oral mucositis. Ourania Nicolatou-Galitis, Chair of MASCC’s Bone and Musculoskeletal Study Group, has volunteered to provide CureCancer with summaries, in both Greek and English, of articles published in the MASCC journal, Supportive Care in Cancer for patients who visit the CureCancer site. For more information, visit the site or see the Facebook CureCancer page.
