Dorothy Keefe Named CEO of Cancer Australia

Dorothy Keefe, PSM, MBBS, MSc, MD, FRACP, FRCP, a MASCC Past President and recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Service Award, has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Australia.

In the March 2019 issue, MASCC President Raj Lalla shares exciting news about a new partnership agreement for MASCC. In this issue, we announce a formal policy and application process for Best of MASCC Meetings. Research Highlight: Cachexia

Several MASCC members contributed to the January 2019 issue of the Annals of Palliative Medicine, which was devoted to the subject of cancer cachexia and includes such topics as cancer cachexia definition, diagnostic criteria, therapies, criteria for treatment response, and quality of life.

Nutrition and Cachexia Study Group Profile

MASCC’s Nutrition and Cachexia Study Group, led by Elizabeth (Liz) Isenring, PhD, and Egidio Del Fabbro, MD, promotes research and clinical practice in all areas of clinical nutrition in relation to cancer.

2019 MASCC/ISOO Annual Meeting Workshops

The 2019 MASCC/ISOO Annual Meeting in San Francisco will feature four workshops scheduled throughout the program and free to all registered attendees: Mucositis Pain Management Research; Complications of Immunotherapy; Design of Systematic Reviews, Meta-Analyses, and Clinical Studies in Supportive Care; Technological Advances for Treatment-Related Symptoms in Cancer Survivors

How to Hold a Best of MASCC Meeting

MASCC announces a formal policy and application process for holding a Best of MASCC Meeting, a MASCC-endorsed conference comprising selected Annual Meeting presentations in order to to disseminate recent advances and guidelines in supportive cancer care.

Running a Successful Cachexia Clinic

On February 26, 2019, MASCC’s Nutrition and Cachexia Study Group presented a webinar, “The Cachexia Clinic — Building a Supportive Care Necessity,” featuring Liz Isenring, PhD (Study Group Chair), Egidio Del Fabbro, MD (Study Group Vice-Chair), and Rony Dev, MD.

In the February 2019 issue, we're pleased to highlight some features of this year's Annual Meeting: its four themes, each one reflected in several sessions led by world experts, and a New Members Breakfast. This issue also includes news of three MASCC award programs: Outstanding Study Group and Study Group Leader Awards, MASCC-Designated Center of Excellence in Supportive Care in Cancer, and the annual Distinguished Service Award. World Cancer Day — February 4th

World Cancer Day will be celebrated on February 4th, a time to promote cancer education, prevention, treatment, and support for patients and caregivers.

New Members Networking Breakfast at Annual Meeting

The 2019 MASCC/ISOO Annual Meeting will feature a New Members Networking Breakfast, an informal opportunity to meet supportive care experts and build linkages across disciplines and generations.
