ESMO Immuno-Oncology Congress 2018 Satellite Symposium

Arti Hurria MD FASCO 1974-2018

We are sad to report that Arti Hurria, MD, FASCO, died in a motor vehicle accident on November 6, 2018. Dr. Hurria was Director of the Cancer and Aging Research Program at City of Hope, in Duarte, California, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology, and a prominent member of the International Society for Geriatric Oncology (SIOG). Our condolences to her family and colleagues around the world. 

 
MASCC Society News November 2018

In the November 2018 issue,  we are happy to announce the publication of the Second Edition of The MASCC Textbook of Cancer Supportive Care and Survivorship, edited by Ian Olver, AM, MD, PhD. In his President's Message, Raj Lalla, DDS, PhD, discusses the significance of the Textbook and its importance to MASCC's mission. The rest of this issue is devoted to MASCC's work on rehabilitation, survivorship, and quality of life. We include a profile of our Rehabilitation, Survivorship, and Quality of Life Study Group and an article on award-winning research by its junior investigators. We also highlight Vice-Chair Margaret Fitch's recent review of research on transition to survivorship. We extend a warm welcome to all the new members who joined us in September. And we encourage every member to be a voice for MASCC!

MASCC’s Rehabilitation, Survivorship, and Quality of Life Study Group has honored Jacqui Frowen, PhD, Micah D. J. Peters, PhD, and Xiaotao Zhang, MD, PhD, MS, for the quality of their research presented at the 2018 MASCC/ISOO Annual Meeting.

MASCC Society News October 2018

In the October 2018 issue, we bring you reports of two recent successful meetings of interest: the first-ever Best of MASCC meeting and the Third Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Supportive Care in Cancer (JASCC). We also highlight the upcoming Second International Symposium on Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws. In this issue, MASCC President, Dr. Raj Lalla, discusses the Best of MASCC meeting and the formation of an Indian affiliate of MASCC. We also announce the evolution of the Bone Study Group to the Bone & Musculoskeletal Study Group and include a Study Group profile, featuring past and future activities. We’re pleased to congratulate longtime MASCC member Dr. Judi Johnson on her recent Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Minnesota. We extend a warm welcome to all the new members who joined us in August. And we encourage every member to be a voice for MASCC!

 
Best of MASCC India, 2018

The first-ever “Best of MASCC” meeting in India took place September 1-2, 2018 in Mumbai and was designed to increase awareness of supportive cancer care and of MASCC in India. The meeting culminated in a proposal to establish a new society, the Indian Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (IASCC).

 
JASCC's Third Annual Meeting, 2018

The third Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (JASCC) was held August 31 to September 1, 2018. With a focus on evidence-based supportive care,, the meeting featured a guideline consensus meeting, a JASCC-MASCC Joint Symposium, and a JASCC-JAOSCC Joint Symposium.
